A tense hours-long standoff in Bath culminated in the arrest of a man now facing multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
Larry J. Schoonover, 51, was apprehended by New York State Police early Monday morning after an incident that originated from a domestic call at a residence on Roosevelt Avenue, located just off Route 415.
According to authorities, Schoonover fired upon responding officers, prompting return fire and the evacuation of neighboring residents.
The situation escalated, leading police to deploy armored tactical units and crisis negotiators. The standoff concluded when Schoonover, allegedly raising a shotgun at Troopers, was shot in the leg.
He was subsequently airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he remains in stable condition.
