State DMV introduces online pre-screening for non-drivers IDs

The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has unveiled an online pre-screening tool, aiming to streamline the application process for non-driver ID cards.

This tool is designed to help residents discern their eligibility for the card and determine the necessary documentation, mitigating the need for multiple DMV visits. To utilize the service, customers must have an NY.gov ID and subsequently schedule an appointment at their local DMV office.

DMV Commissioner Mark J.F. Schroeder commented on the new offering, “Our objective is to make obtaining a non-driver ID as seamless as possible. This initiative aligns with our overarching strategy to enhance customer service and ensure that visits to our offices are efficient.”

The DMV emphasized that anyone in the U.S. with lawful status is eligible for the non-driver ID. Upon approval, a temporary non-photo document will be provided until the issuance of the permanent ID.
