Ithaca city schools launch first two electric buses

  • Staff Report

Ithaca City School District in New York has taken a significant step toward creating a zero-emission school bus fleet by introducing two new electric-powered buses.

This move aligns with the 2022 New York State legislation that demands all new school buses purchased be zero-emission by 2027, and all operational school buses to be electric by 2035.

The electric buses, producing no toxic exhaust, boast several features, including integrated child seats, lap-shoulder belts, live GPS, wireless connectivity, and LED light stop arms and school bus signs.

The school district plans to add three more electric buses to its fleet for the 2023-24 academic year.
