Yankees split Subway Series with Mets

The Yankees (54-48) bounced back with a 3-1 victory over the Mets (47-54) on Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium, splitting the 2023 four-game Subway Series.

The Yankees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Oswald Peraza’s RBI fielder’s choice, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s sacrifice fly.

The Mets quickly answered in the third as Brandon Nimmo plated a run with a sacrifice fly. However, that was the only run they were able to push across.

Anthony Volpe extended the Bombers’ lead to 3-1 in the fourth with a run-scoring double.

Carlos Rodón made his fourth start of the season and looked much better than his previous two outings. The left-hander allowed one run over 5 2/3 innings.

José Quintana made his second start and gave up all three runs (two earned) over six innings.

The Yankees will get the day off Thursday before they begin a three-game series Friday in Baltimore against the Orioles. The Mets will open a four-game series with the Washington Nationals Thursday at 7:10 p.m.
