Matt Colton named new chief of police in Geneva

Matt Colton, a 15-year veteran of the Geneva City Police Department, has been appointed as its new chief, effective July 31.

City Manager Amie Hendrix announced the appointment on Friday, after Colton served as acting chief following the retirement of Mike Passalacqua last month. The search for the new chief considered six candidates, with three being internal to the Geneva PD.

Colton began his journey in law enforcement while working at Geneva General Hospital and later pursued criminal justice at Finger Lakes Community College, interning with the Geneva PD.

Joining the force in 2008, Colton progressed from road patrol officer to detective, gaining extensive experience in uniform division, detective bureau, labor union operations, and administrative functions. His appointment was lauded by Hendrix for his focus on communication, community partnership, and desire to build and maintain trust with stakeholders.
