Longtime Canandaigua YMCA will close its doors next week: Brand new North Street facility coming soon!

The longstanding Canandaigua YMCA will officially close its doors on July 28, marking the end of its 64-year tenure at 32 N. Main St.

The closure will precede the October 2 opening of the brand-new Sands Family YMCA on North Street, a $24 million facility built on land generously donated by the Sands Family, along with $13.5 million towards construction costs.

In honor of the YMCA’s history and service to the community, officials have planned an “end of era” party on July 31.

The celebration, featuring food trucks, live music, and a variety of children’s activities, will take place at the Y and the adjacent Atwater Park. The current YMCA building, a former U.S. Post Office and federal courthouse purchased in the 1950s, will undergo conversion to commercial spaces by Capstone Real Estate Development of Rochester, who acquired the property in August 2022.
