State police arrested 43-year-old Michael R. Mays of Bath on charges related to child exploitation and evidence tampering on June 13.
The charges included Promoting the Sexual Performance by a Child, a D Felony, Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child and Tampering with Physical Evidence, both E Felonies.
Troopers received a report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in January 2023, which led to the investigation. The tip-off pointed to activities within the village of Bath, initiating an in-depth probe that concluded with Mays’ arrest.
Following the arrest, Mays was transported to the Steuben County Jail. However, he has since been released on bail.
