A segment of Route 21 in Canandaigua was renamed the Ralph Calabrese Memorial Highway on Thursday in a tribute to the late Korean War veteran and advocate.
The ceremony took place as part of the nation’s preparation to honor the individuals who have made the ultimate sacrifice for freedom.
Ralph Calabrese, who passed away in 2021, devoted his life to championing the rights of his fellow veterans. Among his significant contributions, he is notably recognized for preventing the closure of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center when it was threatened with a shutdown by the federal government.
His son, Dominic Calabrese, spoke of his father’s determination and urged people to remember him as someone who believed in his cause and single-handedly made a difference.
