Honeoye Historical Museum will join three other Ontario County museums for a Fall For History open house scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, according to the Town of Richmond.
Naples Historical Society says its Cleveland House Museum will open an hour earlier, at 9 a.m., giving visitors another chance to see its summer quilt exhibit before it closes at 4 p.m.
Visitors can choose one or all four stops in Naples, Honeoye, West Bloomfield and Victor, setting their own route through the open houses. Organizers anticipate no admission costs.
West Bloomfield Historical Society organized the tour to give small historical groups, which can struggle to staff regular public hours, a shared day to welcome visitors. Each local group will share information about historical gems and other interesting sights in its area.
The participating locations are:
- Cleveland House, 201 N. Main St., Naples.
- Honeoye Historical Museum, 8690 Main St., Honeoye.
- West Bloomfield Historical Society, 8966 Routes 5 and 20, West Bloomfield.
- Valentown, 7370 Valentown Square, Victor, behind New York Beer Project and across from Eastview Mall.
Cleveland House quilt exhibit
The Cleveland House display, “Naples History Through the Eye of the Quilter,” features 12 historic quilts from the society’s archives.
One quilt is believed to date from before the Civil War, based on research into names stitched in its squares. Another, from the 1930s, may have been used as a mortgage payment.
The exhibit also includes a quilt made by Naples students in 1976 and a quilt presented to the village for its 1989 bicentennial. The bicentennial piece depicts local landmarks and includes work by community members.
