The New York State Department of Health has initiated the process to rescind the COVID-19 vaccination mandate for workers in regulated healthcare facilities.
This move prompted inquiries regarding the status of employees dismissed due to the previous vaccine requirement, with a particular focus on the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
In response, URMC stated that while the vaccination requirement played a crucial role in the state’s public health response during the health crisis, they are now revising their COVID-19 vaccine requirements and policies for employees following the Department of Health’s directive for facilities to create their own policies.
They emphasized that current vaccine requirements would remain in effect until the development of the new policy, which they anticipate will be completed in the coming days. URMC further highlighted their support for COVID-19 vaccination and continues to encourage all employees and the public to get vaccinated and receive booster shots based on healthcare providers’ advice.
