House fire in Tompkins County prompts big response

A house fire erupted on Slaterville Road on Thursday, prompting a swift response from the Brooktondale Fire Department along with mutual aid from surrounding areas.

Responding to numerous calls from the Tompkins County 911 Center, Brooktondale quickly upgraded the situation to a second alarm, which led to an additional request for support upon arrival at the active fire scene.

Fire departments from Slaterville, Varna, and Ithaca also responded, leading to a temporary closure of Route 79 for about two and a half hours.

The fire was successfully extinguished, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The New York State Office of Fire Protection and Control is currently investigating the cause of the blaze, according to the Brooktondale Volunteer Fire Company.
