On this date 93 years ago the ribbon was cut on Auburn, New York’s new City Hall. A building built and gifted to the people of the City of Auburn by Mrs. Helen Osborne Starrow and Mrs. Emily Osborne Harris in memory of their father David Munson Osborne who served as Auburn’s Mayor (1879-1880) and founded the D. M. Osborne & Company employing thousands of Auburnians.
Pictured here is the Wheeler Bell being placed in the tower in 1930. The Wheeler Bell was moved from the old City Hall to the new City Hall and is named for former Mayor Cyrenus Wheeler (1881-1886 and 1889-1890).
Earlier this week on Monday, April 3, 2023 the building was closed for the day due to a power line fire in the utility subway underneath South Street. Fortunately City Hall experienced just minimal damage from this event. Thank you to APD; AFD; all City DPW and MU departments and NYSEG crews for all of their work to resolve the matter.
