March is a huge month for gambling with the biggest college basketball tournament on the planet.
But March Madness is coming to an end and experts say the legalization of mobile sports betting have resulted in more bets being placed online, rather than in-person.
In fact, over the course of just one week- New Yorkers wagered around $460 million. It was the highest amount ever recorded since the state legalized mobile sports betting.
Experts who recently spoke with RochesterFirst.com from the Finger Lakes Problem Gambling Resource Center say it can be an unhealthy period for people who don’t play responsibly.
Advocates say the state needs to put more resources into preventing problem gambling, as its popularity continues to increase.
