Former Auburn school resource officer faces new contempt charge related to sex abuse case

The former police officer accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl at the Auburn High School faces charges from a new indictment handed up this week.

The Citizen reported on Wednesday that William Morrissey, 33, of Auburn was arraigned on March 15th on new charges in connection with his case involving the 14-year-old victim.

He was a school resource officer with the Auburn Police Department, and has been charged with second-degree criminal contempt in the latest update on this case. The new charge stems from Morrissey allegedly violating an order of protection the victim had against him through Snapchat.

Morrissey was arrested more than a year ago by the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office after an investigation into inappropriate contact he had with a student. He was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, official misconduct, disseminating indecent material, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The case as a whole remains active in Cayuga County Court with appearance dates set for later this month.
