Woman who threatened to shoot people on Facebook Live pleads guilty

A Rochester woman, Gabygayl Cruz, 21, pleaded guilty on Friday for threatening to shoot two people on separate occasions through Facebook Live videos.

The US Attorney’s Office reported that in June 2021, Cruz streamed three Facebook Live videos where she threatened to shoot a man while displaying a black screen. Gunshot sounds could be heard in the videos. A month later, Cruz posted another Facebook Live video in which she threatened to shoot a woman at a house on Columbia Avenue. The woman was not present at the time, and Cruz proceeded to hit a parked car and fire shots into the air.

Cruz pleaded guilty to charges of transmitting a threat in interstate commerce and possessing and discharging a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

These charges carry a minimum penalty of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison. Sentencing is set for July 6.
