Woman who tried setting baby on fire at Loves takes plea deal in Seneca County

A woman accused of attempting to set her baby on fire has pleaded guilty to a felony count of attempted assault in Seneca County Court.

Lisbeth Collado admitted to the charges on Monday, which district attorney Mark Sinkiewicz said is in full satisfaction of the grand jury indictment against her. The charges included attempted murder and arson.

The motive for the couple’s alleged acts is still unclear, and may never be explained, authorities say.

Collado and her husband, Jamie Avery Jr., were arrested last May after an incident at Love’s Travel Stops in Tyre. Several small fires were found, and two children found- one with serious head injuries and another who had been doused in a flammable liquid.

Avery is from Florida and pleaded guilty to attempted assault in December. He was expected to spend around 9 years in prison, but removed his plea deal, which has resulted in a new hearing being scheduled.

Meanwhile, Collado will be sentenced on May 10th.
