Sabres home woes continue with loss to Maple Leafs

The Buffalo Sabres’ home struggles continued on Tuesday night as they fell to the Toronto Maple Leafs, 6-3, after two of their worst periods of the season.

Buffalo was completely outplayed in every facet of the game for the first two periods as they trailed 5-0. However, they did show some fight in the final frame as they scored three goals to make it a two-goal game before former Sabre Ryan O’Reilly sealed the win with his third goal of the night.

Jack Quinn, Alex Tuch, and Jeff Skinner netted goals for the Sabres. For Tuch, that was his 100th career NHL goal. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen started between the pipes, but only played 12 minutes after he allowed four goals on 10 shots. Craig Anderson came on in relief and did an excellent job, stopping 17-of-18 shots, keeping the Sabres in the game.

Buffalo was unable to convert on their lone power-play opportunity. They finished 1-for-2 on the penalty kill.

The Sabres will begin another road trip, starting Thursday night when they take on the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
