Former Congressman John Katko’s campaign committee has suffered a financial loss of $14,000 due to fraud, according to a report filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). The disbursements for the fraudulent checks were processed through the campaign’s bank account and reported to the FEC.
In a letter to the FEC, Katko’s campaign stated that it is taking steps to recover the funds and that the fraud was not caused by any personnel within the campaign. The campaign is working with the bank to retrieve the stolen funds.
It is worth noting that John Katko announced in January of 2022 that he would not be seeking re-election to the House of Representatives.
The full filing report can be found on the FEC’s website.
