Grassroots Festival in Tompkins County has been fined.
Altogether the festival’s organizers were fined more than $60,000. However, much of that can be waived if certain conditions are met, the Ithaca Voice reported this week.
Organizers failed to get proper details on maps for where people would be gathering, and missed other crucial components of the permitting process.
The festival is a mass gathering, so officials in Tompkins County say having all of these issues sorted out are important in the event of an emergency.
One major change, as result of the fines and punishment, is that organizers won’t be able to advertise or sell tickets until issues are addressed. The Voice also reported that if certain conditions are not satisfied from the health department’s perspective by mid-January, organizers could be forced to cancel the event.
