House committee recommends Justice Department presses charges for Jan. 6, but not who to target

It’s been recommended by the House committee investigating Jan. 6 that the Department of Justice presses charges. Who to target has not been identified.

According to The Evening Tribune, four criminal referrals have been made against people for contempt of Congress for defying subpoenas. Two were charged. Once recommendations are made on who to charge, they may go as high as former President Donald Trump. Crimes beyond the riot on Jan. 6 may also be considered, like perjury or witness tampering.

The list of who to target has been narrowed down. Rep. Bennie Thompson shared that a separate document will be sent directly from himself to the DOJ.

The final report is expected by Christmas.
