Police: Delivery driver attacked while waiting for food order in Ithaca

Police in Ithaca say one person is in custody after a delivery driver was stabbed while picking up food.

Around 8:45 p.m. officers responded to the 100 block of West Gibson Street for the report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival they found the victim, who sustained a stab wound to his arm. The victim identified himself as a delivery driver and stated that prior to the attack he was sitting in his car near a restaurant waiting to pick up food.

The victim said he was approached by a person who punched him through the open driver’s window of the vehicle. Then, as he was attempting to get out of the vehicle to confront the suspect, he was stabbed.

The suspect, later taken into custody, fled the area before police arrived.

Shawn Fenner, 51, of Ithaca was located nearby and taken into custody. He was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was processed and arraigned before being held at the Tompkins County Jail on $5,000 cash bail.

Police say the victim was treated at a nearby hospital. Any witnesses to the stabbing are asked to contact IPD.
