Tax-free weekend 2022: Dates you should know for each state

Tax-free weekends are limited times that you can shop without having to pay sales tax.

These periods are incentive to shop and stimulate the economy.


Direct payments for Indiana residents in the works– who is eligible?

Here you can find the dates for each state’s tax free weekend:

Alabama

The tax free weekends in Alabama were from February 25, 2022, to February 26, 2022, and July 15, 2022, to July 17, 2022. Some of the items that were not taxed were:

  • Hurricane preparedness generators
  • Clothing
  • Computers
  • School supplies
  • Books

Arkansas

The tax free period will be from August 6, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

Connecticut

The first tax free weekend was April 10, 2022, to April 16, 2022. The next one will take place August 21, 2022, to August 27, 2022.

Florida

The tax free periods for Florida is as follows:

  • May 14, 2022, to August 14, 2022: Children’s books
  • May 28, 2022, to June 10, 2022: Disaster preparedness items
  • July 1, 2022, to July 7, 2022: Outdoor activities
  • July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023: Diapers & children’s clothes
  • July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023: Energy star products
  • July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2024: Hurricane hardened doors & windows
  • July 25, 2022, to August 7, 2022: School supplies, clothing, computers
  • September 3, 2022, to September 9, 2022: Work gloves, flashlights, bags, toolboxes, test equipment

Illinois

The tax free period is from August 5, 2022, to August 14, 2022.

Iowa

August 5, 2022, to August 6, 2022.

Maryland

February 19, 2022, to February 21, 2022, and August 14, 2022, to August 20, 2022.

Massachusetts

August 13, 2022, to August 14, 2022. Some of the products that are included are: meals, motor vehicles, motorboats, electricity, tobacco products, and alcohol.

Mississippi

The tax free weekend will be from July 29, 2022, to July 30, 2022, and August 26, 2022, to August 28, 2022. Items free from tax include clothing, footwear, firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies.

Missouri

April 19, 2022, to April 25, 2022, and August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

Nevada

October 28, 2022, to October 30, 2022 and any purchases made by National Guard members will be exempt.

New Jersey

August 27, 2022, to September 5, 2022.

New Mexico

August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

Ohio

August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

Oklahoma

The tax free period will last from August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

South Carolina

August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

Tenessee

  • July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023: Gun safety products
  • July 29, 2022, to July 31, 2022: Food and food ingredients
  • August 1, 2022, to August 31, 2022: Clothing, school supplies, computers

Texas

  • April 23, 2022, to April 25, 2022: Generators, storm devices, preparedness items
  • May 28, 2022, to May 30, 2022: Energy star products
  • August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022: Clothing, school supplies

Virginia

August 5, 2022, to August 7, 2022.

West Virginia

August 5, 2022, to August 8, 2022.

What states don’t have tax free weekends?
