It was a big day in Canandaigua.
A new boat washing station has opened on Canandaigua Lake, at the Canandaigua Lake State Marine Park.
It includes a high pressure washer, according to an announcement from Sen. Pam Helming, R-54.
Officials hope this will curb the spread of invasive species. The thinking is that if boaters have access to clean their boats- it will help stop the spread of certain things that jump between bodies of water by way of boat.
“It is essential that we protect our lakes from invasive species that can do serious harm to our water quality and public health,” Helming said in a statement. “We must keep our lakes safe for the health of our communities and economy, local tourism, and for residents and visitors to enjoy. This boat washing station is a critical step forward in prioritizing the health of our lakes, and I am thankful to the many individuals and agencies involved in this extensive team effort.”
Boat operators are strongly encouraged to wash their boats before entering the water.
