Child Tax Credit: Payments worth $3,600 for low income families

The portal is reopening that allows Americans with little or no income to claim their child tax credit.

The credit in 2021 was worth up to $3,600 for families making less that $150,000 jointly or $75,000 as a single filer.

Many Americans received the first $1,800 in staggered payments from July of 2021 through Dec. 2021.

They then claimed the other half with their 2021 tax return.

Child Tax Credit: Is it going to change for 2022?

If families made little or no income, this may not have been the case for them.

The IRS figured out who to send the advanced payments to based on 2019 and 2020 tax returns.

If you’re in a family that makes too little to file taxes, the IRS was not aware you qualified.

This means you can claim the credit now.

The tool was launched in 2021 by the IRS and the White House.

It closed for a short time, but has since reopened.

The portal is free and doesn’t require tax documents.

In addition to claiming the child tax credit, you can also claim the $1,400 stimulus check if you qualify.

How to claim the child tax credit using the portal

You can fill out a form online in the portal.

It asks for things like income information and takes around 15 minutes to finish.

It has not been announced when the portal will close again.
