Steinmetz was originally arrested in Livingston County for serious crimes involving a minor and had been hospitalized due to a medical issue. He was released from custody by a court order only to leave the hospital shortly thereafter.
Upon learning of Steinmetz’s departure, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office acted quickly, consulting with the court to revoke his release and ordering his rearrest. This led to an intensified search at Strong Hospital, though Steinmetz was found missing from the premises.
The search culminated early Sunday morning when authorities located Steinmetz at a residence in the City of Rochester. He was taken back into custody without any trouble, ending the brief but intense manhunt.
