The YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County is marking the 30th year of Healthy Kids Day with a variety of free activities for children and families. The Healthy Kids Day celebration will take place 1-3 p.m., Saturday, April 30, at the YMCA’s facility at 50 Graham Road West.
Admission will be free for all families with children under the age of 18. Activities will include arts and crafts, a family fitness challenge, a seed planting activity, Family Zumba and Family Boot Camp class demos, pickleball and a bounce house. The first 100 attendees will receive a Healthy Kids Day t-shirt.
The YMCA will also welcome community organizations and agencies focused on healthy learning and family fun, including the Tompkins County Health Department, the Child Development Council, TST BOCES, SNAP-Ed NY, Ithaca Family Chiropractic, Big Brothers Big Sisters and more. Each will provide an activity or learning experience of their own.
“We’re always looking for ways to link healthy living to stronger community connections. For children, staying active and exploring really means just finding more opportunities to have fun,” said Gunnar Madison, Director of Health and Wellness for the local YMCA. “Healthy Kids Day is actually a really good opportunity to think a little more about what our community needs, what families are looking for, and how we can all work together to meet these needs.”
Healthy Kids Day at the YMCA of Ithaca and Tompkins County has been presented with support from Wegmans since 2013. Learn more about National Healthy Kids Day at ymca.org/hkd and about local programming at ithacaymca.com/healthykids.
