Are there other forgiveness requirements?
In addition to the ten year period, there are additional requirements to get your student loans forgiven. Read more about it here. Some of the other requirements are:
- You must be working a full-time for the government or an eligible non-for-profit. It must be in a qualifying field like firefighting, teaching, government, nursing, public interest law, military or religious work.
- You have made payments for 10 years. That would be 120 payments for the full amount and on-time.
- You have loans in the federal direct loan program. You can consolidate your federal loans as one payment as part of PSLF.
There is a PSLF Help Tool if you are interested in learning more.
