New Scouts Honor line welcomes 40th season for community mainstay, Great Escape

Ice cream season formally begins on April 1 in Watkins Glen as the Great Escape Ice Cream Parlor opens its walk-up windows, officially launching its 40th season.

“The Great Escape has been a family-owned Watkins Glen mainstay for four decades,” said co-owner Jackie Honsberger. “My parents – Peter and Eileen – opened the Great Escape in this same location in 1982. We hire locally (and are hiring!). We partner with other local small businesses to create “only available here” treats. And, we are committed to this community.”

The Honsbergers are also committed to keeping the menu at the Great Escape fresh and interesting. To celebrate this milestone, this year’s menu will include a new Scouts Honor Girl Scout Cookie line-up, with all flavors made locally on-site. Choose from Scouts Mint Cookie, Scouts Caramel Samao, and Scouts Tag Your Peanut Butter. The Great Escape also sells Hershey’s products and will help Hershey’s debut its new 2022 flavors, including Marshmallow Overload, Brookie Dough Blast, and Carrot Cake.

“We like surprising customers with new and fun options,” said Jackie. “Of course, we’ll always have the traditional options – ice cream cakes for Easter and other special occasions and the always popular chocolate and vanilla twist – but it’s fun to create with ice cream!”
