This tax relief comes as many other states create their own programs to help struggling residents after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eligibility for the child tax credit
The IRS has laid out their own guidelines for the federal child tax credit.
In order to claim the credit, you must have filed a tax return.
If you did not file a tax return, then you need to have registered with the non-filers tool.

Anyone eligible must have lived in a main home in the U.S. for over 6 month.
If not, then they need to have filed a joint return with a spouse who did and has a child under 18 with them.
The child must have a Social Security number.

The latest bill that Senator Mitt Romney has been working on is called the Family Security Act.
This bill will change federal tax policies to send Americans monthly payments worth $350 for children under 6 and $250 for children 6-17.
The goal is to eliminate other aid programs to simplify families access to assistance.
