Replacing your Medicare card

If you lose your insurance card, you need to replace it to prove you have insurance.

You can request a replacement card through your My Social Security account.

Login or create an account to do this.

After you’re logged in, choose the “Replacement Documents” tab.

Select “Mail my replacement Medicare card” after that.

It will take 30 days for the card to arrive and it is sent to the address on file with Social Security.

This means if you have moved it’s a good idea to make sure the mailing address is the right address.

What if I need my Medicare card now?

There are a few options if you need your insurance card immediately.

In your My Social Security account you can get your Benefit Verification Letter which contains your benefit number.

You may print a copy of your actual card by going to Medicare.gov and signing in.

If you don’t already have an account, you can create one by selecting that option and following the instructions.

You can also call Medicare directly if you prefer to not use online services.

The number is 1-800-MEDICARE, or 1-800-633-4227.
