Penn Yan village election heats up, petition filing due February 8

Competition for mayor and village trustee positions in Penn Yan village is fierce ahead of the March 15 election. Twice the normal number of candidates are running for both positions, according to records at Yates County Board of Elections.

Incumbent Mayor Leigh MacKerchar and village Trustee/Deputy Mayor Dan Condella are both running for mayor. Both have filed as independents, as is necessary in village elections, and both have prepared petitions to circulate among registered voters, according to The Chronicle-Express.

Candidates for village trustee include incumbents Norman Koek and Teresa Hoban. Their challengers are Bruce Gleason, Daniel Irwin, Ralph Senese, Daniel Henries Jr., and Rebecca Devine Godbee.

In order to be included on the ballot come election day, candidates must obtain 100 valid signatures from registered voters and file petitions before February 8 deadline.
