a Syracuse woman is going to prison for her role in a fatal crash near the Waterloo Premium Outlets in June.
The Finger Lakes Times reports 20 year old Shyquest Powell pleaded guilty in Seneca County Court this week to assault and grand larceny in connection with the June 23rd crash. She’s expected to be sentenced in January to eight years in prison, followed by five years of parole.
Investigators say Powell’s SUV was leaving the scene when it ran into a car driven by 66 year old Brett Rising of Junius. His car went off the road and rolled over. Rising was ejected from the vehicle and later died at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Police say Powell and a 17 year old were leaving the scene with stolen merchandise.
Powell was originally charged with manslaughter.
