Victor sweeps pool play, advances to finals against Massapequa

Victor girls volleyball continued their dominating season Saturday morning and in to the afternoon, taking all six sets of play in the pool play semi-final round of the New York state tournament.  The Section V Class AA champions move on to the state finals on Sunday morning to play Massapequa.

The Blue Devils first faced Pine Bush of Section IX at 9:30 am, taking the sets 25-9 and 25-12.  Victor then faced Shenendehowa of Section II after a short break.  The Blue Devils took their next two victorious sets 25-13 and 25-16.  With the then record of 4-0 in pool play, the Blue Devils clinched a spot in the state finals, however one final match in pool play awaited in Section VIII’s Massapequa.

If the two sets in pool play are any indication, the Class AA final should be a great one, Victor took the first set 25-21 over Massapequa.  The second set proved to be a thriller, as the Blue Devils to the extra play victory 26-24.  It won’t be a long wait for the squads to face each other again, the Class AA final is the first match on the day Sunday morning with a start time of 10 am scheduled at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.  With Saturday’s pool play match being the only time the two have faced each other this season, the rematch tomorrow will be with the biggest prize yet on the line, a state title.
