524,754 workers will be surprised with a stimulus check worth $285 before the year ends.
The half million people getting the check are from Maine.
They will get the checks in the coming weeks after the bill was passed earlier in November.

The goal is for families to get some help during the holidays while everyone works to recover financially.
Who is eligible for the checks in Maine?
The two major requirements to get the check depend on your work history and income.
A person must have worked through 2020 and submitted a 2020 tax return showing the employment.

The check is a thank you to those who worked throughout the pandemic.
You must also make $75,000 or less as a single filer, or $150,000 or less if married filing jointly.
You do not need to apply, the state has already chosen who they want to send the checks to.
The first group of checks were mailed Nov. 15. Six groups in all will be sent between now and Dec. 31.
Everyone eligible and chosen is getting a paper check.
