The Victor Blue Devils girls volleyball team sent Frontier packing Friday night, and with it secured its biggest season win to date, reserving a seat in the Class AA semi-final round in the state tournament. Victor defeated Section VI’s representative in straight sets 3-0, however it wasn’t as easy as some sweeps can be.
Victor and Frontier went in to extra play in the first set, with Victor securing the win 26-24. While the second set didn’t need the extra play, it did come down to the wire, with the Blue Devils coming out with a 25-23 set win. The third set proved to be toughest, with Frontier jumping out ahead early 11-8 before Victor drew to a 11-11 tie and then ahead 12-11. Frontier came thundering back, pulling out to a 20-17 lead before a Blue Devil timeout. Victor’s timeout proved to be a momentum changing chapter in the match, as the Blue Devils flipped the script on Frontier and led 24-21 when Frontier called a final timeout. The timeout only prolonged the inevitable, and Victor scored the lone remaining point to secure the 25-21 third set victory.
