Geneva Middle School Principal arrested; accused of inappropriate encounter with a child under 17

On Thursday Oct. 28, Geneva Police Department Detectives arrested the Geneva Middle School principal following an investigation into allegedly endangering the welfare of a child.

Police found that on or around Oct. 5, John L. DeFazio Jr., of Greece, had an inappropriate encounter with a child less than 17 years of age. The incident occurred at the Geneva Middle School on Carter Road in Geneva.

If there have been any other individuals that may have had inappropriate contact with DeFazio, please contact Detective Matthew Colton at 315-828-6779 or [email protected].

If parents need assistance with speaking with their children, please contact the Child Advocacy Center of the Finger Lakes at 585-394-2573. They can put parents in touch with an advocate to help. Their website www.cacfingerlakes.org offers resources on how to speak to children about personal safety.

Geneva City School District recently announced that the Geneva Middle School principal had been placed on leave, but did not disclose the reason. Acting Superintendent Kathy Davis has announced that Tricia Budgar, the district’s director of strategic initiatives and athletics, will be filling in for DeFazio. Davis is currently filling in for Superintendent Patricia Garcia while she’s on administrative leave.
