An Amherst man will spend 18 months behind bars for trafficking exotic African cats.
Christopher Casacci had a website called ExoticCubs.com and sold Caracals online for $10,000 per cat. They were advertised as house pets.
He imported the animals under the guise of operating a cat rescue so he wouldn’t need to deal with the state prohibiting possession and sale of these animals.
He also falsified documents to hide the species of cat, using crossbreeds like Bengal and Savannah cats.
Many of the animals died in Casacci’s care, or after he sold them. The ones that were rescued are kittens, and are now safe in animal sanctuaries.
