New information on the pursuit and crash that shut down a busy intersection in the city of Canandaigua
The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office says they received notification that a 2020 Dodge Ram pickup truck with a cattle trailer attached was stolen from a farm in Livingston County during the early-afternoon hours.
It was spotted on Route 5 in the town of Canandaigua by an employee of the farm. The suspect then turned south on Hopkins Road and began to accelerate.
A deputy located the vehicle on Hopkins Road and attempted to stop it but the suspect ignored the emergency lights and siren.
The vehicle went onto County Road 32 and into the city of Canandaigua by Bristol Street where other units joined in the chase.
As the suspect sped through the intersection of W. Gibson and N. Pearl streets he struck a Jeep operated by Elise Endicott-Hunt, 43, of Lima.
The suspect then continued north up N. Pearl St. rear ending another vehicle operated by 72-year-old Katherine Kjar, 72, of Canandaigua. Her vehicle struck a utility pole.
The suspect then fled the scene on foot before being taken into custody.
Endicott-Hunt was initially unconscious and had to be freed from her vehicle by firefighters. She was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital where she’s being treated for internal injuries.
The suspect was identified as Jeffrey Dibble, of Farmington.
He was charged with felony assault and held on no bail due to two previous felony convictions.
The entire pursuit lasted six minutes from the time it started until it concluded and Dibble was in custody, according to deputies.
More charges are likely, according to the sheriff’s office. The Canandaigua Primary and Elementary schools were placed in lockdown for a brief period of time as the pursuit unfolded.
The area was closed down for an extended period of time.
