4 Cayuga Count Fire Departments, Aurelius, Cayuga, Fleming No. 2 and Union Springs, are going to split a grant worth $290,542 for new protective equipment, including gear for fighting brush fires.
The departments came together to apply for the grant, awarded by the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, which goes through the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Departments applying together are favored.
Schumer and Katko were both supportive of the grant applications, Katko prioritizing the support of local fire departments.
