District officials say it was a bomb threat that shut down Penn Yan Central School buildings Tuesday afternoon.
A threat was called in around 1 p.m., which prompted a police investigation involving multiple agencies.
The buildings were placed into lockdown as law enforcement searched.
Yates County Sheriff’s Investigator Lt. Scott Backer told the Chronicle-Express that there will be a joint-investigation between the Penn Yan Police Department and Yates County Sheriff’s Office in determining who made the threat.
Superintendent Howard Dennis was on vacation yesterday, leaving Assistant Superintendents Cathy Milliman, and Greg Baker in charge. They said Dennis was made aware of the situation.
“This afternoon, the district received a concerning phone call. Out of an abundance of caution, we locked down the buildings and contacted law enforcement. Upon investigation, there was no actual threat,” officials said.
