Deputy suffered reaction to opioid during arrest in Steuben County

Deputies arrested a 51-year-old following an incident in Steuben County, in which one of the responding officers suffered from a reaction to a controlled substance.

The arrest took place in Erwin and resulted in Virgil Louk, 51, of Corning being arrested on several charges.

Deputies say Louk was found to be impaired by drugs, and had methamphetamine and fentanyl on his person at the time of the arrest.

One of the deputy’s involved in the arrest reacted to the drugs, which required medical treatment.

Louk was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, driving while ability impaired by drugs, driving while ability impaired by drugs and alcohol, aggravated unlicensed operation as a felony, tempering with physical evidence as a felony, and reckless endangerment as a felony.

He was arraigned and will answer the charges at a later date.
