One taken to Strong Memorial Hospital after hours long standoff with police in Wayne County

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release that they responded to an apartment complex on Rt. 31 for a person who was in an intoxicated or agitated state.

Upon arrival officers learned that 43-year-old Richard Rodas had barricaded himself inside his apartment- and was threatening to hurt himself and officers.

Due to previous contact with the subject- deputies requested additional help at the scene to protect the individual, officers, as well as the large number of individuals who live at the residential facility.

It took approximately 8 hours of negotiating before Rodas exited. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of self-inflicted injuries.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s office was assisted by Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Macedon Police, Wayne County Mental Health Department, Town of Macedon Ambulance, and Wayne County ALS.
