Good news on the COVID-19 front in Cayuga County.
Sheriff Brian Schenck says the COVID-19 outbreak has been contained at the Cayuga County Jail. It’s been contained to a 40-inmate pod.
He told Finger Lakes News Radio that he’s surprised there hasn’t been an outbreak like that at Auburn and Cayuga Correctional Facilities, which are state-run prisons.
“One thing that made this situation even more challenging was that we learned that a number of the inmates had symptoms before Friday,” Schenck told Finger Lakes News Radio. “They were reluctant to tell us because they knew they would be locked down.”
Only one corrections officer tested positive.
