One item inside Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s budget is a $1 fee, which would be attached to all online transactions made through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
It would be applied to basic transactions, which the state encouraged to be completed online to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
The apparent cause for the bump is to take care of online resources that need to be bolstered to handle the increased demand. It would apply to license or ID card renewals, as well as registration of vehicles.
The fee would expire after five years, according to language in the budget.
