Search for missing man with dementia in Penn Yan ends positively; police thank community for assistance

The Penn Yan Police Department says they responded to a call for a missing and vulnerable adult with dementia on Monday.

Upon arrival, officers learned that the subject, who was not identified in a press release, had left on foot without notifying any family members about his whereabouts.

Officers began checking the area and knocking on neighbors doors. After not being able to locate the subject officers called in assistance from the Yates County Sheriff’s Office, Penn Yan Ambulance, Penn Yan Fire Department, Yates County Emergency Management, and neighbors.

After a search that lasted more than one-and-a-half hours, the subject was located at a local business. The individual was not hurt and decided to go for a walk without notifying family.

The person was transported home by police. The Penn Yan Police Department thanked the family and everyone who came out and assisted – including neighbors.
