One person in custody after search in Tompkins County, but little information released by local police

One person was taken into custody after an incident Sunday night in Tompkins County, but police are not releasing much information about it.

On Sunday at approximately 7:30 p.m. the Ithaca Police Department observed a person matching the detailed description of a suspect wanted for various felony-level crimes – including burglary and vehicle theft.

When the officer attempted to stop and identify the person he fled on foot behind houses in the 600 block of West Buffalo Street.

A perimeter was established and officers searched the area. The suspect was located and detained. Police say that the person was not identified and remains a person of interest.

No charges have been filed at this time.

The Ithaca Police Department was assisted by the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police.
