Attorneys for disgraced Congressman Chris Collins are asking for a judge to delay his prison entry date due to the Novel Coronavirus.
Collins resigned from his congressional seat in 2019 before pleading guilty to federal insider trading charges.
He was supposed to go to prison in March, but that was pushed to August. And now, it could be delayed again until October 13th.
“The situation has continued to deteriorate,” attorneys wrote citing the pandemic, “and given current conditions in BOP prisons, Mr. Collins, who is an elderly, first-time, non-violent offender, would face a serious and unnecessary risk to his health and well-being.”
He will have to serve two years, and two months in prison.
