One of the region’s higher education institutions is going to need major cuts to get through the 2020-21 academic year.
Canisius College says it faces a $20 million deficit for the upcoming year, which starts in little more than a month.
College President John Hurley says the Board of Trustees asked the college to make more than $12 million in cuts. That means the layoff of approximately 25 faculty, and another 71 staff members.
Salary cuts are also coming for any employee making more than $65,000 per year, and nine majors will also be disappearing.
Hurley noted that changes needed to be made, but that the Coronavirus pandemic accelerated the process.
