Gym owners across New York State are coming together to fight reopening plans issued by Governor Andrew Cuomo.
There’s an apparent class-action lawsuit planned, which will be filed by the end of the week.
Gyms were thought to be included in ‘Phase 4’, but when that day arrived in the Finger Lakes, Central New York, and Southern Tier — the rules changed, and they were denied the opportunity to reopen.
While many have been submitting safety plans for reopening, the state has not budged on allowing them to reopen.
“I just don’t know how a guy can shut down an entire industry without any data,” gym owner Charlie Cassara said.
Attorney James Mermigis tells News10NBC that there needs to be a balance.
“While we do understand the serious nature of this disease, these people have a business, they need to support their families and they are on the brink of losing everything,” Mermigis said. “There needs to be a balance between both.”
