Bath man accused of assaulting victim in front of children in Penn Yan

Police arrested a 28-year-old Bath resident following a domestic incident in Penn Yan.

Alexander Bates, 28, is accused of bruising and cutting another person during an assault on Tuesday.

That assault is said to have occurred in front of several children.

When police arrived on Friday to arrest him, they say he attempted to hide from them in an attic crawl space.

Bates was charged with assault, criminal mischief, endangering the welfare of a child, harassment, and a parole violation.

Bates is being held at the Yates County Jail.
